I’m thirsty! By giving your plant facial expression on a pot display, Lua wants to make it easier for you to tell what your plant needs.

Ever wish your plant could tell you what it wants? One company thinks it will be easier for us to take care of our household plants if they have a face.

Depending on whether the plant needs more water, light or a change in temperature, the Lua smart pot will change between 15 different facial expressions (who knew plants were so complex?).

Keep it too far from sunlight and the smiley face on the built-in display will start to grow vampire fangs. Forget to water it and you’ll soon notice its tongue hanging out.

On show at this year’s CES tech fair in Las Vegas, the pot even has a motion sensor to make it look like the plant’s eyes are following you around the room – totally not creepy.

According to Luxembourg-based manufacturer Mu-Design, the pot uses various sensors to track soil moisture, sunlight exposure and temperature to communicate the plant’s well-being.

Like most smart home products these days, it also comes with its own app so you can track your plant’s health.

A single pot costs €99 (RM449), making it far more expensive than a normal pot, but also cheaper than a real pet.

You’ll also need to accept a cable hanging out of your pot, as it requires a power source via USB.

The pots can be ordered through the company’s crowdfunding page on Indiegogo.
