Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Badlishah muncul juara bagi Anugerah Pereka Cipta Muda di SIRIM Invention, Innovation and Technology Expo (SI2TE) 2018.

SIRIM, a leading research and technology agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), has organised the SIRIM Invention, Innovation and Technology Expo (Si2TE) 2018 from 16 to 18 April 2018, in efforts to encourage and promote the culture of research and innovation among the society. Si2TE 2018 is a competition featuring research findings and products especially in health and engineering materials, developed by Malaysian researchers. The three-day program was participated by researchers, academicians and industry, students from primary and secondary schools, community colleges, technology institutes and government agencies.
The Si2TE Best of the Best award was won by Dr. Salma Mohamad Yusop from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; Special Award was won by Universiti Teknologi Petronas and SMK Semerah Padi, Sarawak; Best Green Invention was won by SIRIM Behrad; The Best Young Creator was won by SMK Sultan Badlishah; and Best Women Inventor was won by Prof Dr Suzana Yusup from Universiti Teknologi Petronas. The awards were presented by Kedah State Exco of Science; Innovation and Information Technology; Communication and High Technology and Human Resources, Dato’ Norsabrina Mohd Noor. Also present was President and Group Chief Executive of SIRIM, Prof Ir Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani.
Dato’ Norsabrina Mohd Noor, in her speech said, Si2TE 2018 was able to promote the culture of research and innovation among researchers, academics and industry as well as foster the interest in Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) among students as early as primary school. “Through this program, I believe that unique inventions should be recognised and be highlighted for commercialisation. I hope that this event will continue to be a platform to showcase invention that can make our lives easier and then be featured for commercialisation,” she said. Prof Ir Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani, said Si2TE 2018 had received 250 entries compared to 180 in 2017.
“We received 14 entries from primary schools, 136 secondary schools and 98 participants from institutions of higher learning, community colleges from all over the country. Besides that, we have received entries from abroad, the Yogyakarta State University, Indonesia,” he added. During the program, 47 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) comprising companies that have been audited under the SIRIM-Fraunhofer Technology Audit Program also showcased their products. The program was also joined by National Nanotechnology Center, Pusat Sains Negara, Universiti Teknologi Petronas and Industrial Biotechnology Research Center, SIRIM Berhad. The Si2TE is in line with MOSTI’s agenda for 2018, “Negaraku Berinovasi”, which is based on continuous transformation towards national development and people’s well-being through science, technology and innovation (STI).
