KUALA LUMPUR: The Internet video-streaming service Netflix is now officially available here, and is marking the occasion by offering a free one-month trial.

That’s right – you can now access the channel famous for original content like Orange is the New Black, Sense8, as well as Marvel-branded hits like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, all commercial-free.

Once the promotion period is over, users can subscribe to any of the three available packages – Basic (RM33), Standard (RM42), or Premium (RM51), all of which offer unlimited movies and TV shows that you can view on multiple mobile devices.

There are however several caveats; the biggest being that HD is not available for the Basic package. If you want HD, you’ll have to plump for the Standard package, which gets you HD, while the Premium package nets you Ultra HD.

Another is that some shows available in the US are not available here, such as the award-winning series House of Cards. (For more detailed info on available content, check out Star2’s upcoming report.)

Additionally, the packages differ in the number of screens you can watch shows on at the same time. For example, the Basic package limits your multimedia consumption to just one screen at a time – be it TV, phone, laptop, or tablet – while the Standard package opens it up to two screens at the same time.

It goes without saying that the Premium package is the most generous, allowing simultaneous streaming on four screens.

Netflix has said that users can cancel their subscription anytime without incurring any fees, and that they may upgrade or downgrade their packages easily at any time.
