THE teams taking part in the National Finals to be held in Cititel Hotel Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur, are no strangers to the hands-on challenge as they are all winners in their respective state challenges. However, there is a twist in the finals. In the Innovation, Creativity & Business Acumen Skills (ICBAS) Challenge, teams have to design a prototype or model based on a theme, but will not be given a fixed set of materials to work with. . Teams will be given a budget of RM100 to buy the materials of their choice. More challenge details are included below: National Finals ICBAS Challenge Based on the theme given, your team is to design an original, innovative model which offers an environment-friendly solution to a specific problem in your neighbourhood or community. Themes: Lower Secondary: “Going Green with Recyclable Resources” Upper Secondary: “Creative Solutions for Maintaining Sustainability” The theme may be interpreted literally, figuratively or otherwise. Teams are encouraged to use Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) where analysis and evaluation are required to design their model. On die day of the challenge, all teams will be provided RM100 to buy the materials and apparatus needed to build the model. ONE hour will be allocated to buy these items from a store chosen by the organisers. TWO hours will be allocated to build the model. Electronic gadgets, electrical appliances, mobile devices and phones are not allowed to be brought in. Teams are also not allowed to bring their own materials & apparatus. The team captain is required to write a design statement for the team’s model. A copy of the design statement must be handed in to the Chief Judge on the morning of the challenge. After the ICBAS Challenge, each team will be given THREE minutes to present their model to the judges.
